Lad Feared Whipping Hid in Burning Barn and Lost His Life
A four year old boy died when he perished in a barn fire on a farm 14 miles east of Oelwein Iowa. After being scolded for matches he hid in a burning barn beneath a manger and died as flames consumed the structure. The fire also destroyed a hoghouse a newly built barn a machine shed and a corn crib.
