Fire damages frame building in Waterloo district
A fire discovered at 12 40 PM damaged a two story frame structure at 625 Commercial Street in Waterloo. Clothing and stock from Waterloo Cleaning and Works were moved to safety as flames reached the roof, with minimal gasoline stored in a large tank. Articles from customers were removed to Davis pool hall across the street. The building, among the oldest in the area’s business section, may require a new roof or fireproof improvements. P L Christensen, proprietor, reported the fire after seeing flames engulfing a rear section. Fire crews answered quickly, limiting further danger within 15 minutes. The origin remains unknown. The structure is owned by Merchants Warehouse Co., located between Commercial Cafe and the future Jackman Bros. brick building at Commercial and Fifth streets.
