Iowa Diversifies From Grain to Livestock, Curtiss Says
Ames Iowa May 11 Dean C F Curtiss of Iowa State College outlined a shift from grain farming to diversification in Iowa noting that 1920 income from 10 leading commodities totaled 782 million, with 562 million from livestock and products and 229 million from grain. By 1926 total farm income reached 719 million, 617 from livestock and 103 from grain, while grain share fell 53 percent since 1920 and livestock rose. Curtiss urged an American market guarantee for farm products, warning current imports hurt farmers and noting meat and dairy prospects look brighter than grain.
