16 Year Old Davis Cup Hope Could Join Team
The United States Lawn Tennis Association weighs a possible Davis Cup spot for Wilbur Coen Jr of Kansas City, a high schooler barely 16, if he defeats Johnny Hennessey or George M. Lott Jr at the St Louis trials. Officials note his Augusta record, including a near-Tilden level showing, but age and experience are factors. If Coen wins at St Louis, a dramatic shift in team selection could occur as the Davis Cup committee pursues a win.
