Rhubarb in Home Canning and Cooking Tips
Farm women are advised on rhubarb use from stewing to canning. Experts suggest baking stewed rhubarb with less sugar and optional raisins and orange rind for flavor. Rhubarb can be canned without processing due to acidity, using sterilized jars with cold water, then rewatered and sealed, or cold-packed and processed for 15 minutes.
Keeping Records Pays Farm Women Learn Home Accounts
Town farmers found keeping 16 accounts helpful and Iowa State guidance brought the practice to farm women. Miss Gertrude Lynn of the Extension Service led an all day session at the YWCA, stressing that house accounts promote accuracy and efficiency. She noted many homes spend heavily and that records aid better buying, saving money, and planning. The home account book and monthly farm product sheets were demonstrated, with books provided at nominal cost by the Extension Service through Elizabeth Tudson.
