Reparations talks stall as Young seeks leniency
In Paris the reparations conference lumbers on with British and German reservations blocking progress more than French objections. American expert Owen Young extends deadlines and hints changes to proposals may be possible to keep the talks alive as three months pass without a breakthrough. The debate over high money rates intensifies with economists calling for collateral liquidations while critics blame speculative excess.

STATE TO OPPOSE GRAIN RATE RAISE
Des Moines Iowa May 8 Iowa will make a vigorous fight against proposed increases in interstate freight rates on grain at a hearing before the interstate commerce commission May 14. The objections will be to the preliminary report on tariffs prepared by the commission under the Hack Smith resolution adopted by Congress several years ago. Although intended to bring about a general reduction in rates on grain in the middlewest it was found that in Iowa and one other state there were low spots in such rates and the proposal is to raise grain rates in Iowa to bring them in line with states in other states. It is against this attempt that the Iowa board of railroad commission through its commerce counsel plans to wrigHt campaign.
