The Ladies' Literary Society civic department held its annual meeting at the public library. Mrs. W. W. Marsh presented The Utilization of Waste, arguing waste can be transformed into perfumes, toys, and building bi-products with German chemists leading thrift efforts.

Freight Foreman Assaulted Doctor After Box Search
Dr George M Nesbit suffered a sprained ankle and hip a badly bruised face and other injuries after William Patterson foreman of the Chicago Rock Island Pacific freight depot assaulted him following a search for a box of drugs at the Rock Island freight house around 4 pm Saturday Patterson jumped the physician onto the platform kicked him off and was later arrested Bonds were sought and a trial set for 2 pm Wednesday with Nesbit expected to appear pending recovery.

Man Targets in Egg Battle Cites Freight Worker Clash
Rasmus Elling, a freight handler at the Illinois Central depot living at 320 East Ninth Street, testified before Chief Dinneen about an assault by two fellow employees on a Wednesday evening at a home of Judge and Mrs. F. C. Platt between 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning. The report ends without further comment.
