Americans Raise Capital to Build Peru Railway
Port Worth Texas May 5 The Slieet International dispute in the western hemisphere centers on a railroad planned by American interests to connect the Pacific coast to the Amazon river. A $30,000,000 fund has been subscribed by financiers in Texas Denver Chicago and New York to back the line promoter Senator H Cegarra of Lima. The project would affect Tacna and Arica whose status under the 1884 treaty with Chile has long sparked tension between Peru and Chile. The line would pass through nitrate copper and timber regions and enhance coastal and inland trade.
