Factional Campaign Builds in Eighth Iowa District

Des Moines May 4 reports show a heated Republican Democrat contest in Iowa's Eighth district ahead of the June 4 election. Democratic nominee J P Daughton of Grand River campaigned after a strong bid against Towner last fall, while Judge Evans earned the nomination through long district court service and delegate support at Creston. The district has shifted with past races, listing Jamieson and Hepburn as former Democrats and Republicans in succession. Daughton, though a Democrat, endorsed Brookhart for U S senator during last fall's campaign.
