Manchester Hotel to Close and Rebuild as Department Store
Manchester Iowa joins a plan to demolish the 1885 Manchester Hotel, replacing it with a modern department store under new owner D. J. Meggenhurs. The project preserves brick walls, adds new entrances, stucco, and interior remodels as the business expands from a small start in 1929 to a regional leader. The adjacent office of the Delaware County Abstract Co. is torn down for a brick building housing the abstract office and two flats on the upper floor, with Judge George W. Dunham aiming to occupy the top level.
