Building trades meeting to ponder strike in Waterloo
Master plumbers in Waterloo faced a potential lockout as the Master Builders association of Black Hawk county weighed action after journeymen plumbers struck for $1 per day more. The dispute, tied to a wage scale of 12 1/2 cents per hour or 38 per day, followed a rejected compromise offer of 50 cents. Negotiations continued with hopes for arbitration while construction proceeded undisturbed and all firms across the city were affected.

Master Plumbers In Waterloo Demand Wage Hike
The Master Plumbers of Waterloo report a wage increase request by Journeymen and Apprentices, claiming current pay is too low. They cite 200 workers earning between 1600 and 2600 annually, with an average over 2100, and note multiple failed conferences and a near 50 percent compromise offer rejected by the union. A strike was threatened as shops run without men, while the master plumbers urge public cooperation during ongoing reorganization.
