Marshalltown May 1 After spending the afternoon at work in the field burning cornstalks George Kalger age SQ a retired farmer of Clemons dropped dead of heart failure at the home of his son W C G Kaiser near Clemons When Mr Kaiser did not show up for supper his son went to look for him and found him dead in a lane Mr Kaiser came to town in 1886 when he settled at Davenport and had lived in this county since 1867 He is survived by a large family of Frown children

Eldora May 1 Last week the board of supervisors let a contract for permanent grading of about thirty one miles of Hardin county roads The work includes graveling as soon as suitable gravel can be secured The routes cover eleven miles between Ackley and Iowa Falls three and a half miles west of Alden three and three quarter miles south of Alden seven miles between Buckeye and Radcliffe J B McAndrews of Keokuk who did similar work last year was awarded the contract at 1945 cents per cubic yard with work to begin at once The width to be graded is about twenty six feet The board plans tile later to grade additional sections near New Providence Hubbard Union Ownsaw and Eldora The McAndrews contract is said to be the cheapest for similar work in the state and the longest strip of permanent grading yet made in Iowa A party of gypsies traveling de luxe are encamped near Bridgeport Oklahoma They are traveling in throne automobiles well outfitted for camping Thironses.

Fort Dodge May 1 Ralph Dinse a local printer has completed an invention to revolutionize corn cultivation. When attached to a plow the cultivator moves around corn in circular strokes eliminating cross plowing. The blades open and close without touching the corn unless irregular spacing requires a lever from the seat to prevent damage. Dinse reports the device satisfactory and has declined offers to buy the patent.
