Daylight closing bill stymied by senate committee vote
In Des Moines March 29 the senate committee on suppression of intemperance reported favorably on a bill to end saloons in Iowa City where the state university sits, but with a provision allowing existing permits to run to expiration. The committee deadlocked six to six on the daylight closing measure, leaving it in committee. Senator Arthur Savage proposed a sitting committee to manage all bills not on the calendar, limiting reports to one bill at a time for swift action.
