Farm Bloc Urges More Money for Big Mississippi River
Washington dispatch reports the Mississippi river valley bloc won a 150 to 54 House vote to raise inland waterways funding from 27 634 300 to 40 061 000, aiming to complete the six foot channel from the Twin Cities to St Louis and boost upper river navigation, with Farm Bloc leader Dickinson arguing it aids midwest farmers amid transportation woes. If the Senate adopts the larger figure, about two million could be used next year for upper Mississippi improvements.
