Des Moines reports a new Iowa department of agriculture appears assured after the Senate passed the bill 36 to 16. It will absorb state dairy and food, state veterinarian, health, oil inspection, weather and crop service, and other offices. The secretary will be elected every five years with a $4,000 salary. the bill takes effect July 4.

In Keenosaugus March 24 a district court verdict favored nieces in the Sarah J. Bell will contest. Bell of Milton had made three wills from 1913 to 1917 and left most property to her caretakers Thomas A. Bell and Nettie Sommers in the last will, with the nieces and nephews receiving half earlier. The plaintiffs argued undue influence and unsound mind. the jury deliberated overnight and returned a verdict for the plaintiffs at 10 a.m. with three women on the jury.
