Waterloo dairy farmers plan to raise milk prices April 1. Clyde Bechtelheimer says local prices lag peers, with farmers calling for 2.25 per cwt raw and 2.45 cwt pasteurized. He notes bottling costs push price above 10 cents per quart and hints at shifting surplus to butter if dealers resist.
About 6,000 quarts of milk are sold daily to local dealers by the farmers' company. Nearly all dealers buy from the creamery, though some milk peddlers with their own cows do not. Mr. Bechtelheimer insists no unreasonable demands are made.
