Woman nominee Mayer fails to win Iowa board spot
In Des Moines on March 22, Mrs. Mayer’s confirmation to the Board of Control failed after a split vote. Senator Dutcher urged her qualifications, while Senators Pitt and Thompson led opposition claiming women are not fit for the board. The senate’s action foreshadows defeat of Holdoegel’s plan to require a female member on the board.
