Wednesday evening announced the marriage of Miss Lillian Krider to Mr. Ray C. Barclay at the bride’s home on Allen Street with o’clock ceremony. The event joined two local families and was followed by hours of social greetings.
A sequence of community gatherings appears in local notices. Marcia Webster discusses The Nursing Profession at the visiting nurse stall while Deborah chapter of Westminster guild held a meeting at Mrs Harry G Northey’s home. Brotherhood groups plan a Plymouth Rock stereopticon lecture and a box lunch social. Several women’s groups including Lydia society, G A R women, Pythian Sisters and Women’s Relief Corps schedule meetings, socials, and charitable drives in church halls and private homes through Friday and Saturday, with reminders to bring sandwiches, lunches or boxes and to attend Memorial hall events.
Grace M. leads the church orchestra with Mr Bates delivering the subject Why Brown Stands on the Brink of Hell. The service begins at 7 30 o clock with a rousing Bong service. A group of twenty women led by Mrs Brainerd will assist with the music. Everyone is invited.
London reports a British volunteer writes home from the front praising trench work and the hard labor of digging lines from Switzerland to the sea. He recalls a young soldier who laid down his shovel to cool his pipe, prompting a sharp remark from the sergeant about the heat and exertion of frontline duty.
Police were appealed to yesterday afternoon in the search for four pieces of furniture valued at £100 stolen from Mrs. Elizabeth McLoughlin of 408 Quincey Street during the past week. Most of the furniture had already been removed over the prior three months after she closed the home and moved to live with her son three miles east of the city. The family learned yesterday that the house had been entered and the items removed.
B M Osgood of Menominee City will lecture this evening on Cuba titled Cuba the Land of Sunshine and Flowers. The event at Walnut Street Baptist Church is hosted by the Barnea and Philothea classes. Admission is free, offerings go to missions. The speaker will display 160 stereopticon slides and share personal experiences from his travels in Cuba.
Three men faced police court for cruelty to animals at the Mission. Tete O Hara and J B Gill pleaded guilty and were fined ten dollars each while Herman Griefnow pleaded not guilty. The proceeding was continued to this evening as J E Bates and crew alleged to have mistreated a horse face separate charges.

Recipes include glycerine and zinc tone creams, hair and scalp tonics, hair removal solutions, bust development claims, and a chalky face powder sold in drug stores, touting economy and dramatic, rapid results.
The Ben's Glee Club of Leander Clark will present an entertainment next Monday evening at Graves Memorial United Brethren church. Sixty singers with Miss Lucila Baldwin on piano will perform club numbers, quartets, duets and solos ranging from classical to popular tunes, reflecting a successful season.
Despite rain and storm last evening Prof J W Shannon at United Brethren church drew the largest audience of the series. His address Love's Paradise Lost and Found covered courtship marriage choosing a partner parenthood duties and social conditions facing youth in this age. The lectures have been scholarly practical and presented in a Christian manner.
At the United Brethren church at 3 p m Professor Shannon presented Life Stories and How to Tell Them an inspiring and instructive address. He followed at 4 15 p m with a talk to over 200 high school boys at East High. During his stay he spoke from three to five times daily.
The Grinnell Glee Club, a famed Middle West college musical group in its twenty second season, will give a concert at First Congregational Church in Waterloo on Friday evening March 31. The ensemble includes Nelson A. Sly of Waterloo, a recent West graduate, amid its members returning from a Pacific coast tour.
McKinley school pupils from kindergarten through sixth grade stage The Brownie Bands a charming operetta. Performances set for Thursday and Friday at 7 16 o clock to fit children bedtime, with a second night available for those who wish to attend. Costumes will be unique and add to the picturesqueness of the show.
