Rural carriers battle deep drifts to run routes
Blizzard conditions cripple eight Waterloo post office routes as carriers fail to traverse entire circuits. Roads east and west worst, Hudson road nearly impassable. Farmers aid by furnishing horses and coffee, while some remain unappreciative. Carriers start at 9:45 a.m. and work seven to eight hours, returning with mail and bills from local box services.
