Iowa Budget Bill Advances Through Iowa Senate
Des Moines March 19 The state budget bill is favored to pass the senate and become law upon publication. The senate committee on departmental affairs recommends it in the same form as the house approved February 27. If enacted the budget will expire standing appropriations July 1 1825 and require full future appropriations for all state expenses. The plan creates a state budget board with a director of the budget appointed by the governor, removing the office of state accountant. Hearings will be held after the budget report and the board must draft a state appropriation bill for presentation when the legislature convenes. The article also outlines primary election changes and related provisions.
