Changes Tasked for Game Laws Abolish State Warden Office

Des Moines reporters note supporters of new game and fish legislation expect passage this session. The bill would split authority into fish, game, and fish and game warden commissioners, shift power from a single official, and impose a $1 fishermen’s tax with exemptions for women and youths under 18. It also contemplates a $25 hunting and fishing license, district deputies, and special posts at Spirit Lake and Clear Lake. A separate measure proposes a closed season on several game birds until 1916 or five years, with discussion of extending fishing closures earlier in May to reduce spawning and boost fish stocks.
