Vote Bribe Jury Indicts and Quits
Danville March 15. The Ver million county grand jury investigating wholesale election vote frauds in Congressman Cannon's district adjourned after six weeks of hearings. It returned thirty eight indictments, fourteen for electoral corruption. Judge Kimbrough dismissed the jury subject to recall on April 17. The panel recommended a special prosecutor and harsher laws including five year disfranchisement for first offenses and life for second. William C. Brown of the city election commission was indicted for taking money to influence votes. The inquiry failed to indict the "men higher up" but said evidence would be preserved to reopen if conditions require.
