Judge Kennedy declines Rathbun probe post. cites politics risk

Sioux City Iowa March 13 Judge J Kennedy says he will not join the Rathbun pardon inquiry in the legislature. He notes evidence from Ida Grove remains confidential and warns the appointment of H W Byers could politicize the matter. He declines to assist as an assistant in presenting findings to the committee.

Horse Causes Train Wreck in Panama Yard

Panama Iowa March 14 fireman E Berry of Perry was killed when passenger train No 12 eastbound struck a horse at Panama yard limits. The horse derailed the train with engine mail car and baggage car falling into a ditch and the tender on top. The engineer and others escaped unharmed. Berry leaves a widow and one child. Traffic on the main line was halted until late last night.
