The Royal oil has reduced Hancock County real estate value since 1923. Land tax value dropped $5.89 in four years from $65.39 per acre in 1823 to an adjusted 1927 value of about $60 per acre. The 1925 value averaged $60.43 and 1929 is set at $59.50. If the tax levy hasn’t risen since 1923, the 1927 to 1928 value gap implies a roughly 24 percent reduction in total real estate tax burden.
