Man's Downfall Caused by Drugs in Freeport
George May, a Cleanings estab lishment worker from Freeport, is back in Chicago facing forgery charges after a heroin addiction led to his downfall. He says five years of use, worsened by supply cuts under the federal act, diminished his senses and caused deceptive behavior that misled doctors and officials. His father, a Charleston farmer, has spent about 20 000 dollars trying to reclaim him. May’s illness during detention was attributed to appendicitis, but he says the pains came from heroin withdrawal and not surgery.
