Cops and miners clash at Scranton mine shaft entry
In Scranton on March 11 authorities seized the Oxford mine of the People's Goal company to stop operations. Police, led by Mayor Connell, faced resistance as miners sabotaged hoist cars and a rope rescue of supporter J H Rittenhouss left him held prisoner inside the shaft. The action follows a new mine care law.
