Davenport Iowa, March 10. In a record vote at yesterday's school election the Ku Klux Klan candidates for the school board were defeated by a two to one margin. Independent candidates nominated by petition emerged after the Klan slate, with the total vote reaching 12,079 across six wards. Other districts reflected mixed results as anti administration and independent slates vied for seats amid tax and leasing proposals for old school houses.

Barney Helm 44 of Waterloo died yesterday at St Francis hospital at 4 p m of pneumonia. Born Aug 4 1880 in Niobrara Nebraska he was foreman of the Copper Kath Packing company. Surviving are widow Nora and children Marie Larry Lloyd Vesper Geattle Roberta Bernard and Derven. Both bodies at Petersen Bros mortuary with pending funeral arrangements.
