Iowa Senate considers consolidation into state department of agriculture
A bill introduced by the senate committee on departmental affairs proposes a new state department of agriculture in Iowa. It would include the weather and crop service, animal health, dairy and poultry groups, forestry, geological survey, weights and measures, and hotel and food inspectors, with a secretary at 4000 dollars a year for a two year term. The measure excludes the state fair administration, which would remain under existing oversight, and would require the governor to appoint a secretary of agriculture who would take office July 1, 1923.
