Mystery Bullet Fatal To Youth In Sioux City

Dean Chandler a 22 year old machinist shot by an unknown assailant while in his room at 3531 Glenn avenue Morningside Sioux City died at Sumaritai hospital where he was rushed after the shooting The death was due to infection two operations failed to remove foreign matter and the bullet remained lodged Chandler died with his mother brother and sweetheart at his bedside Police have not identified any suspect nor established motive The assault occurred as the assailant approached the house and fired twice the first shot lodging in a dresser and the second entering the left hip lodging in the liver and stomach Chandler had earlier served in the tank corps and worked for an automobile manufacturer He is survived by his mother two brothers George J Chandler Hartford Conn and James C Chandler Rockford Ill and two sisters Mrs Bates Boston Mass and Mrs E L Barton Belvidere TH The body will be sent to Belvidere for burial.

Iowa Falls Man Sets Long Rural Route Service Record

Alonzo Lovejoy of Iowa Falls has the world's record for longest service on a rural carrier route. He started when the route was established and has missed only six days in 19 years due to two accidents and four illnesses. His wife, Mrs. Lovejoy, often substitutes, driving in all weather. The Lovejoys, long residents of Alden, once served a 27 1/2 mile route that later grew to 29 1/2 miles. If a congressional bill passes, Lovejoy could retire with a pension after more years of service. he is 63.

Order of Mustaches in Ellsworth College Holds Convention

The first and only banquet of the Brotherhood of Mustaches and Sisterhood of Bows was at Exbert cafe in Ellsworth. Students from Ellsworth College participated with toastmasters, verses, and toasts. Prizes were awarded for the best mustache, the handsomest, and the scrubbiest.

In Dubuque Iowa March 9 Vincent Ferro aged four died after falling from a coal wagon near his home. He was taken to Mercy hospital but died en route. The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Monday when the boy climbed onto the wagon and fell under the hind wheel. In a Prescott Indiana note the Bixler family reports twin daughters born February 29.

Sioux City March 9 Despite organizers from San Francisco pushing a closed shop and a 64 member local, most downtown hotels and restaurants resist recognition. Pickets remain before eight of 49 eating establishments, while many eateries close at 3 am. Trade reports show little decline in business as protests continue.

A state agency contract of four quarters of a million dollars closes as Fort Dodge becomes the state distribution hub for Surillis airplanes.
