Boy, Five, Saves Father Buried in Silage Tragedy

March 2. Douglas, a farmer near Coutter Eneant, was trapped under two tons of frozen silage in a silo. His five year old son, noting the father stopped throwing silage, summoned a nearby farm family. The boy’s warning enabled the father to be freed after the son and neighbors dug him out. A large block of frozen silage had landed atop him, but a breathing space formed as silage thawed along the wall. The accident occurred as the silage loosened from mild weather and the vibration of digging caused toppling.
