Mature stock eggs prove better for hatching says poultryman
Charles Miller reports that Mr and Mrs A B Dean of near Waterloo found eggs from mature hens yield stronger, larger chicks with 25 percent better results than pullet eggs. They raise about 300 birds, plan to keep best hens four to five years, and use mature birds for mating while selling pullet eggs. Muscular vigor and early laying improve outcomes, with moisture control and sand tar paper flooring reducing dampness in the Dean setup.
