JOWANS PROTEST HEAVIER FREIGHT RATES ON GRAVEL
Iowa gravel producers urge the Interstate Commerce Commission to reject rate increases claiming higher costs will halt road building. Des Moines and Humboldt men warn a $1,000 per mile rise would push highway costs up about 31,000 per mile and hurt public welfare as 47 percent of U.S. business is construction driven. Waterpower licenses for Iowa projects delayed as federal panels reassess before July or August approval. Jubile residents report local moves and health notes. Mayo Clinic consults for stomach trouble.

Claims Shortage Of Student Nurses May Handicap Hospitals
Buffalo June 30. Mrs Annie L Hansen, superintendent of the Buffalo District Nursing association, says without a remedy for acute nurse shortage many hospitals will curtail operations. A recent campaign to attract young women to nursing failed, leaving one Buffalo hospital to close a department. She notes US hospital training schools are efficient and new home nursing systems arise, but pupil numbers fail to appear. The country needs another Florence Nightingale.
