Social events showcase midweek Waterloo gatherings
Charming social affairs hosted by Mrs. Powers and Mrs. Williams brought about sixty ladies to a 1 pm pavilion and a breakfast for an equal number at the Powers residence on Third street. Decorations featured carnations and ferns, with a three course menu served by Grace Williams and others. Miss Gladys Powers performed vocal numbers and readings, aided by Miss Frances Brammer. Out of town guests included Mrs. Comee of Wisconsin and Mrs. Burton of Wisconsin. Eastern Star picnic at Chautauqua park drew 175 members and friends, with a 6 pm dinner and games. A birthday party honored Mrs. Marcham with a table laid for a round, black eyed susans centerpiece. Children’s party at Mrs Osborne’s hosted forty boys and girls for games, music, and a 6:30 picnic supper. Various local ladies’ groups held meetings and sewing bees. Fort Dodge and Hudson marriages cited, plus Waterloo wedding notices and visitor tidbits add to a day’s bustling social calendar.
