Ambulance Gage Exposé in Minnesota Railroad Case
Fort Dodge Iowa June 29. Judge Peterson in Freeborn County Minnesota curtailed a practice by Minnesota lawyers soliciting injury cases against railroads. Arthur Mead of Fort Dodge, an Illinois Central conductor, lost a foot in 1922 at Mansoula. He was hospitalised at the railroad company’s expense. Rinehart and Davis & Michel pressured Mead to hire them by promising Minnesota justice, paying all costs and high verdicts. Mead later settled with Illinois Central for a fair amount and dismissed the Minnesota suit for fees. The case exposes solicitations and contingent-fee schemes in injury claims.
