Lightning Strikes Fertile Bank House in Odd Storm
In Fertile Iowa on Tuesday lightning demolished two trees and badly wrecked the home of W H Rhodes president of the Fertile bank. No one was hurt. The bolt split a tree limb, entered the house, broke seven windows, damaged a cistern pump, lifted a cess pool cover, and tore telephone wires. The Rhodes family slept on the second floor. A large area near the strike was burned to kindling. The Rhodes bank building was struck and windows broken. Ball lightning balls were seen over village structures.

Charles City Crone breeds toads as fly enemy in garden
In Charles City Iowa Crone has converted his garden to breeding toads and garden truck. He asserts toads are the worst enemy of the fly and foresees a time when people domesticate them to rid premises of files. 40000 Harvesters Needed in Canada
Winnipeg June 29 J Bruce Walker says a massive Canadian wheat harvest is ahead with 2 096005 acres sown and an expected 260 million bushels. He estimates 40000 harvesters will be required to handle the crop expanding across Saskatchewan and other regions with higher yields and gains in oats and flax.

Noted elephant commits death by own action
Tom Tom the man eating elephant from the Yankee Robinson show drowned at a lake near Ishpeming after a tour marked by aggression. Keeper Harry Gray tried to guide him to safety. the elephant lurched into mud, showered water and gravel, then rolled over and died. The body was towed ashore. tusks were cut and fashioned into souvenirs for circus managers.

New Ripley Township District Formed Near Center
A new school district is formed in Ripley township, located near its center to benefit patrons hindered by the former district’s extent. A new schoolhouse will be built on the south side of the West Fork near Mead bridge. Girl Falls Down Elevator Shaft in Des Moines
Lillian Smith a 19 year old from Austin Minnesota fell twelve feet down a shaft in the Youngerman building Wednesday afternoon. She sustained serious internal injuries and cuts to the head. Police surgeons sent her to Methodist hospital. elevator boy William Murray stopped the lift just in time. Her sister Mabel was with her when the accident occurred.

Fall from tree kills farmer near New Sharon
New Sharon on June 29 reports the death of Segal Busby, a farmer four miles southeast of town, who was cherry picking when a ladder fell. He struck his neck on a rock, a blood clot formed, and he died. He was the fourth in his family to die suddenly from accident or illness. His two brothers were killed by lightning eleven years earlier, and his father was killed in Grinnell after being run over by a cattle train in the Iowa Central yards.
