North Dakota vote tight as repeal results lag in state dry law contest

Fargo June 28 The North Dakota ballot on repealing the prohibition law appears very close with only 129 of 1,192 precincts reporting early today. In those precincts 9,112 opposed repeal to 7,763 in favor, mainly from eastern dry territory. Nestos leads Frazier for U S senator by 6,580 as returns come in from 424 precincts. Shafer holds a 12,828 lead over Thoresen for governor with 434 precincts tallied. Most minor offices lack clear indications.

Veteran fire worse jumps as bell rings at picnic

Topeka Kansas June 28 habit runs deep in a horse as a man. During a Lakewood park school janitors picnic a bell was rung at dinner. Mort M Miller rang it near a field with horses hitched to a mowing machine. A horse startled and the team ran off. One horse had once served as a fire horse at Topeka stations, though wagons haven’t used horses in years.
