Man’s face badly cut in auto wreck at crossing
An incident at the Fourth street crossing near Dunkerton Iowa left W G Meyers with a deep cut to his upper lip and left cheek after a light roadster was driven into a freight train heading toward Cedar Rapids. Meyers and farm worker Edgar Averhoff were hospitalized and later noted in jail on intoxication charges. An officer found Averhoff asleep and a bloodied liquor bottle in the wrecked car. In Baja, a separate tragedy saw Kathe Korb commit suicide after her parents cut her allowance for a forbidden romance. Korb’s father Korb demanded 3000 marks from the Hungarian government for funeral costs and a monument, prompting a government inquiry.

London editor G Holt Thomas argues England holds the Atlantic crossing time record.
