Eighth graders face tough state exam questions at Cedar Falls
The writer notes teachers wrote the same state examination at Cedar Falls and recalls a 10 year ago June event with 150 to 200 teachers. He reports ninety Butler county students passed the eighth grade exams for the county farm bureau picnic and laments the many who failed. He questions the exam content asking whether eighth graders could answer items about public opinion and the responsibilities of shaping it. He argues for more practical questions.

Housewives expect to fill fruit cupboards with locally grown cherries. Cherries can be canned without sugar and sweetened later if sugar becomes cheaper. Many women carried home market baskets of cherries as Waterloo residents picked fruit from the trees.
