Mason City hosts a growing Atlantic Yellowstone Pacific trail tourist camp at Eastpark along the AYP and Jefferson highways. About $7,000 has been spent to develop the site once a weed patch and Lime Creek bed, now a park camp with comfort station pavilion stores and a caretaker. Cars arrive daily from many states as travelers use the front door of Coolidge’s South Dakota lodge as a waypoint on the national routes to Canada and the Gulf.
Quicksand and broken sewer tiles have damaged more than 75 feet of storm sewer beneath Campbell avenue. Sieg Construction crews deepen the hole to 27 14 feet at 50 feet long 12 feet wide to anchor the floor with concrete. Cribbing, steel sheeting, and piling stabilize earthen walls as workers pump water from two levels and plan further digging to reach badly crushed early tiles. G H Lindell leads the crew.
Des Moines reports Harry D. Linn formerly of Shelby county now Rawlins Wyoming county agent chosen by Iowa Horse Breeders association as field representative under state aid. Linn, Ames graduate, will be based in the statehouse after July 15 with headquarters in the agriculture department. Plans include colt clubs and shows to promote feeding, management and breeding of horses in cooperation with the Ames extension service.
