Des Moines man surrenders in Ames midnight party case

Des Moines on June 24 Indicted Otto Eaton surrendered at the sheriff office. He faces a serious charge linked to the three day excursion that involved 14 year old Dorothy Getchell and Thelma Moler. Ray Reeves was arrested earlier and Eaton and Reeves posted bonds at 5000 dollars. The Moler and Getchell girls were sheltered after their parents sought police aid.

Fort Madison Iowa June 24 Walter H Hayle proprietor of the Hayle pharmacy claims the distinction of writing the smallest check in the citys history He wrote a three cent check to the United States treasury yesterday needing either a money order or a check The error may have required an internal revenue van from Davenport to collect but the collector was stopping by en route to collect the amount

Mrs Gaston Means Former Iowa Girl Sued by Revenue Officer

Revenue officer entered Hayle's store in Charles City Iowa on June 24 to inform proprietor Gaston Means of New York that he misreported his war tax return and shorted 3 cents on his remittance. Means is now suing District At to challenge the claim.

Attorney Swann Case Involving Million Dollar Damages

A New York attorney and his assistant face $1,000,000 damages connected with a murder case. The defendant was tried for the murder of Mrs. James C. King and acquitted at Conlord North Carolina. Means’ father was a state senator from 1804 to 1870 and a central Iowa lawyer. Means acted as confidential agent for Mrs. King and inherited $4,000,000 after her widow’s death. The prosecution alleges a $490,000 contract with her profited him for proving a will in her favor. He is now said to be probate filing the will in Chicago.
