The man claimed a prior marriage in Arkansas and implied he would pay after obtaining a wife, while Plummer promised prompt action if any applicants were sent to him.

An unknown group attempted to derail the Tiffin line near Iowa City on a Thursday night in June. Authorities reported broken ties and disrupted tracks but no injuries were detailed.
A westbound Mountain Limited was struck by a wild freight that passed over the track causing the ties to jar but not derail the passenger train. Ties pierced the pilot and slicking in it were carried eight miles to Iowa City as Sheriff Fauta and a posse were summoned to the scene yesterday morning.
