Soil Prospers with Alfalfa on Sandy Ground near Waterloo
J A Ranney near Waterloo proves sandy soil can yield profit. Years of trial transformed land once seen as waste into productive alfalfa worth 15 dollars per acre to dairyman Joe Golinvaux who cut and stored the hay. He expects 1 2 more alfalfa crops this year and also shows a half acre of asparagus yielding 272 dollars this year. Ranney’s experience shows sandy land can be made to pay through proper management rather than starving on rough ground.
