Design 1060 by Glenn L Saxton Architect Minneapolis presents an artistic living room across the front with wall space for a piano large fireplace built in bookcases and art windows. The 26 by 28 foot main area features a beamed cross ceiling and ample light with a cost of 3200 excluding seating and plumbing.
Waterloo proceeds with razing historic 512 Fourth Street West, the L. C. Burkitt residence, purchased by Mrs. Kate Lund Christen and her daughter Miss Marie Lund. The old landmark will be removed to make room for a newer building.
A modern two story brick building designed for women’s bath parlors will replace the existing structure, signaling redevelopment in the area and expected modernization of local facilities. The project reflects continued urban renewal and investment in public amenities.
Plans show the old residence in Waterloo to be cut down to street level and replaced by a 25 by 60 building. The site’s former landmark, once owned by pioneer merchant B. J. Capwell, will be cleared as the architect finalizes the design and bids are issued. Nearby residents Mr and Mrs Burkil plan to move to 216 Randolph Street after 21 years in the area.
