Man Ad Magee Freed on Manslaughter Charge by Directed Verdict
East Las Vegas New Mexico June 17 AP editor James Magee known as a stormy figure in New Mexico politics walks free after a directed verdict of not guilty in the manslaughter case over the fatal shooting of John Lasseter last August. Former Judge Leahy testified to aggression in a hotel lobby brawl and witnesses described Leahy knocking Magee to the floor before Magee fired while prone. The judge cited the language barrier for a nonjury proceeding, removing the case from a bilingual jury and ending a two day trial.
