Miller Slams Health Dept in Iowa Rep’s Speech
Chicago June 17 A Wa verly Illinois representative Charles Miller attacked the proposed federal department of public health in a luncheon address to the Hawk Eye Fellowship Club. He argued the United States already has a capable Public Health and Marine Hospital Service and dismissed claims that a national department would curb preventable deaths or justify large public spending. He contrasted British French and German structures and urged reliance on existing state boards and vital statistics to measure health progress.
