Auto highway replaces scenic railroad in west
Colorado Springs, June 14. On March 23, 1901 Cripple Creek celebrated the last spike of a famed scenic railway costing about four and a half million dollars. The line, built for ore and coal transport, is being dismantled for a scenic auto road toward Rosemont and the Broadmoor region. W. Dr. Corley, coal dealer, led the bold bid to remove the Short Line and plans to repurpose the railway equipment for mining ventures in Canon City and beyond.

Chicago river boulevard spans fort Dearborn site and Wrigley tower
The boulevard link cost 16 million dollars with twofold investment in offices along its approaches. Across the river the 29 story Wrigley building and a new Methodist temple vie as Chicago’s tallest. A 5 million dollar Wrigley addition rises beside, while the Tribune tower project costs 8.06 million. Historic battlegrounds and early French fort sites frame plans to replace South Water Street market with a double deck boulevard and riverfront development near Wolf’s Point, once a Black Hawk war hub.
