Intended record for U S soldiers may fall short
Washington June 14 The war risk bureau faces a monumental task to persuade 4 200 000 soldiers and sailors to convert five year insurance to a permanent contract as policy forms near completion. It warns that failure to keep insuring would mark a major setback in national insurance aims and the envisioned estates worth about 40 trillion dollars.

Storm Tossed ALR Pilot Lands Here in Waterloo
Lieut Johann, an air pilot from Manly Iowa, landed in a vacant field on Logan avenue near Waterloo about 6:20 PM after a rain storm while en route from Chicago to Clear Lake. He sought help from Lieut Milo Miller of the Miller Scales Aero Co and remained in the city overnight. The Miller-Scales company expects two new planes to be assembled for trials, boosting Waterloo to a three-aircraft fleet. Local business leaders advocate establishing an aircraft station to serve cross country pilots, with hangars and cross shaped gravel roads to allow takeoffs in wet conditions. City authorities may be asked to finance a station, deemed a potential asset with little cost.
