Coccidiosis Reported in State Chickens
Several cases of coccidiosis found in young chicks four to six weeks old. Disease causes heavy losses up to 25 to 50 percent in badly infected flocks. Damp ground and poorly drained yards worsen the problem. Affected birds show dullness, drooping wings, red-brown bloody diarrhea. Kill and bate affected chicks, clean and disinfect feeding floors and waterers, keep chicks warm, dry, well ventilated. Intestinal antiseptics and astringents help control, with sour milk or buttermilk fed.
