JITNEY LINEs Thrive As Ross Bus Line Expands Five-Cent Cars Face Regulation
The Ross taxicab company buys two large auto buses and launches jitney routes in Wateloo. About 20 jitneys operate citywide with multiple cars on several lines. One line runs seven cars, another five. Ross runs two now with plans for more if successful. A Fifth Street route and a Fourth Street to Electric Park route will connect with Sycamore. Jitney cars seat 12 and will run on a schedule once timings are set. Regulators consider ordinances to manage the growing four and five cent service amid rising wiring and traffic.
