Poor Bookkeeping May Be Defense in Embezzlement Case
Des Moines June 7 It was estimated today that the main defense in the trial of Fred E Berg for alleged embezzlement of court fees would be that he was an erratic bookkeeper and shortages showed loose methods rather than criminal intent. The state will try to prove Berg embezzled about 3900 of state funds while at the municipal court. So far W H Kooser the state clerk has been the only witness. He cited numerous alleged discrepancies in Berg s accounts. It is believed Berg will testify in his own defense Monday or Tuesday.
